Western Cape deputy police commissioner Anwar Dramat will lead the new organised crime unit which replaces the Scorpions.

Police Minister Nathi Mthethwa named Dramat as the head of the Directorate of Priority Crime Investigations at Parliament today at noon.

This unit will fall under the control of the police.

Asset Forfeiture Unit head and Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions Willie Hofmeyr had earlier been suggested as a favourite to head the new unit.
