The Western Cape premier Helen Zille says provincial housing land worth about half-a-billion-rands was transferred to the national government a day before this year’s election.
Zille says the land, transferred by the previous African National Congress provincial administration, is large enough to accommodate nearly 100-thousand houses.
Zille believes the transfer was designed to undermine the new administration’s capacity to deliver on housing and other projects. Legal advice is being sought to establish whether the process can be overturned.
