The Western Cape Department of Education today has confirmed that a student from False Bay College was arrested for assaulting a lecturer with a brick.

The incident took place at the Westlake Campus on Friday.

Spokesperson for the department, Paddy Attwell said that the student was apparently selling chips outside the lecturer’s class when the lecturer asked him to move.

“The student later entered the classroom armed with a brick and struck the lecturer above the eye”

Attwell said that the college called the police and the student was arrested; the college took the lecturer to the doctor where he received some stitches.

Attwell added that the college provided counselling for the lecturer and the students.
