WC Traffic Authorities stamp down on unlawful drivers

Western Cape Traffic Authorities this past weekend conducted 24 roadblocks across the province whereby 2 526 vehicles were stopped. 

1 214 drivers were tested for alcohol and eighteen drunken drivers were arrested of which the highest reading was recorded on the N2 near Caledon. 

Provincial Traffic Chief Kenny Africa said the total of the fines that we issued was 186 800 and we also tested the speed of 1796 vehicles of which we prosecuted 161 and drivers who were exceeding the speed limit.

“The highest speed recorded in the Western Cape Province was a 161 kpm in a 120 zone on the N1 near Beaufort West and also 110Kph in the 80 zone near Beaufort West Africa added.

Meanwhile during the roadblocks the provincial traffic authorities arrested four other people for various offences including permit issues, possession of dagga and reckless driving.

Two people died on the province’s roads this past weekend one on the R300 and the other on the N2 near Caledon.

Provincial Traffic Chief Kenny Africa said the one person was arrested with his public transport motor vehicle with regards to permit issues and that was in the Brackenfell area.

“Another person was arrested in Beaufort West for being in possession of Dagga and the one driver arrested on the N2 near Swellendam for reckless and negligent driving and yet another Dagga arrest in the Vredenburg area Africa added.
