During weekend roadblocks in
the Western Cape twenty-four drivers were arrested for driving under the
influence and nineteen people died on the province roads.
Four impoundment arrests were
made in Oudtshoorn and three drunken pedestrian were arrested in Vredendal.
Provincial Department of
Transport and Public Works Spokesperson Byron La Hoe says dyer’s breathe
alcohol reading was recorded in Wooster which was 5 times the legal limit.
7205 vehicle were screened for speeding, of which
802 speeding offences were recorded.
170 fines were issued for various traffic
violations ranging from driver to vehicle fitness to an amount of R244 050
rand.
Dyer speed was 172km/h in a
120km/h zone on the N1 in the Brackenfell service area, La Hoe added.
