27 people injured in a collision involving 16 vehicles

An accident this morning involving 16 vehicles on the N12 west after the Tomes Jones offramp in Benoni left 28 people injured.

ER24 Spokesperson Chitra Bodasing says when ER24 paramedics and other services arrived on scene, they found two lanes of the four lane highway strewn with vehicles for about a 100 meters.

Paramedics assessed the patients and found that 27 of them sustained minor injuries, and one sustained moderate injuries.

They were treated and transported to local hospital for further medical care.

The exact details of the cause of the accident will remain the subject of a police investigation
