The campaign recently launched by the City of Cape Town Mayor, Patricia de Lille, to promote substance abuse treatment programme has yielded positive results.

The City started its ‘Someone in Cape Town’ campaign hosted exclusively on Social Media and aimed specifically at young people.

City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Health, Councillor Siyabulela Mamkeli said Social Media was an obvious choice for the campaign because it enables them not to only reach the youth, but to relay a story in a manner that they would relate to and even share directly

“We want to present a raw and honest view of the daily struggles of a recovering drug addict.” Mamkeli added.

He also said the aim of the two and half month long campaign is to increase the number of young people that seek help from the City.

Six such treatment sites are operating in Tafelsig, Town 2 in, Khayelitsha, Delft South, Milnerton; Parkwood and Manenberg.
