On Sunday afternoon at about ten-past-one, Table View police received a call that a man was threatening to shoot himself.

"We were on the scene within minutes at the Dorchester Drive home and negotiated with the 53-year-old father," says police spokesperson, Bernadine Steyn.

Steyn adds that after negotiating, the man and his 32-year-old wife came out of the house, and the man handed his 9mm licensed pistol over to police.

"The pistol was seized under section 102 in terms of the firearm control act," explains Steyn.

Steyn says that their two daughters, a 10 month old baby and three-year-old were in the house at the time of the incident.
