The parents of a two year old girl who was found in the bushes next to the Happy Valley informal settlement in Mfuleni has been arrested for child abuse and child abandonment.
Police officials were patrolling the area early this morning when the child’s parents asked for help in finding their daughter.
An immediate search led to the discovery of the child’s body under a tree in the bush.
Preliminary investigations have indicated that the child was possibly raped and suffocated.
A case of murder and rape is being investigated.
The cause of death will only be known once a post-mortem is conducted.
They will appear in the Mfuleni Magistrate’s Court on Friday.
The Western Cape police have appealed to parents to take extra care of their children as we head into the “16 Days of Activism of No Violence Against Women and Children.”
