The National Institute for Crime Prevention and the Reintegration of Offenders have launched a new initiative to tackle drunk driving.

The initiative is expected to be piloted in and around Cape Town.

The aim of this is to have a positive influence on reducing drunk driving and keeping South Africans safe on the road.

Nicro Communications Manager Jacques Sibomane said the initiative takes people who had been arrested for drunk-driving and other road offences, and puts them through a three session system that educates them about the danger of drunk driving.

“What we are looking at is to take it a step further and to reach people who have not yet drunk and to educate them about the dangers of driving drunk” Sibomane added.
