Acting Minister of Police Siyabinga Cwele today called for a speedy investigation, possible arrest and prosecution of the police officers involved in the death of Mido Macia in Daveyton.

Cwele has also welcomed the announcement by the National Commissioner of Police, Riah Phiyega that the police involved have been suspended and disarmed and the removal of the Station Commander from his position.

Spokesperson for Acting Police Minister Siyabonga Cwele, Zweli Mnisi said Minister Cwele has also urged the Independent Police Investigative Directorate to speed up their investigation because this matter is viewed in serious light.

Meanwhile the Police and Prisons Civil Rights Union have condemned the brutal attack by police on Mido Macia.

Popcru Spokesperson Theto Mahlakoana said, they are disappointed that this is the kind of image we are representing to the public.

Mahlakoana said the police have a mandate to serve the communities that they are based in and any act of brutality whether to by the public to the police or police to the public is not welcomed.

Meanwhile dozens of mourners turned up at Mido Macia's Daveyton home today for the memorial service.

Macia died on Tuesday this week in police custody after he was assaulted by police officers, handcuffed to the back of their van and dragged for several metres.

It is alleged that police approached the Mozambican national after he had parked his taxi wrongly.
