The Labour Court in Johannesburg stopped all promotions within the South African Police Services.

Solidarity approached the Labour Court in Cape Town last year, challenging the Department of Correctional Services` Affirmative Action Policy.

The judgement came after an interdict was granted to Solidarity after the trade union had argued that the plan mounted to racial quotas and that Solidarity was involved in court cases against the SAPS which the court was being petitioned to declare invalid the affirmative action against plan outside the SAPS.

Solidarity Spokesperson Johan Kruger said they are very pleased because the SAPS Affirmative Action plan is contrary to the Employment Act.

Kruger added that hopefully they will be successful in their case to be heard later this year.
