The Western Cape
Department of Education today said it is aware of the Grade 1 pupil who was
sexually assaulted allegedly at school.
Provincial
Education Spokesperson Paddy Attwell said this incident is very concerning and
the district officials are investigating the matter.
It is alleged that
sticks were used to sexually assault the child.
Attwell said the
department has received a report about the incident and can not reveal the
details as the investigation is continuing.
He added that
department is guided by policies in cases such as this but it does also provide
counselling to the victim and the family when needed.
