28-year-old arrested for fraud

Lusanda Bill
21 December 2014

An alleged report of a false case of fraud to the Western Cape police had a 28-year-old man arrested in Diepsloot this week.

One thousand rand was given to the suspect by his father to be transferred to the suspect’s mother, through a money market at Shoprite.

It is believed the suspect involved his neighbour, who is unsuspected.

Warrant Officer Daniel Mavimbela said the suspect deposited the money as instructed by the father but he apparently had arranged with an unsuspecting neighbour to withdraw the money on his behalf.

Mavimbela said it is believed that by the time he forwarded the money market pin code to his mother the cash had already been withdrawn by the neighbour as arranged.

“After a false case of fraud was reported to the police the suspect also thanked the neighbour with a R100. At this stage we have no information to show that the neighbour was the accomplice in this matter” Mavimbela added.

The suspect will be charged with perjury and will appear in the Randburg Magistrates Court soon.
