A new presiding officer has been put on the murder case of Nathaniel Julies’ as the murder trial will have to start afresh following the death of Judge Ramarumo Monama. The 16-year-old Down’s syndrome boy was shot in Eldorado Park in 2020, allegedly by a police officer just meters from his home.
The trial against
three police officers Scorpion Ndyalvane, Caylene Whiteboy and Voster
Netshiongolo was well under way when the judge passed away.
Witnesses had already testified in court, including a man who
was there when Julies was shot, a photographer and a ballistic expert. However all
evidence will and testimonies will have to be scrapped and the trial must start
from scratch before a new presiding officer. Judge Moosa will begin with
pre-trial proceedings this morning.
