Manenberg Police Spokesperson Ian Bennet
says there are so many contributing factors that lead to gang violence
including poverty, lack of education and substance abuse.
Over ten people have been killed in gang
violence in the area in the past few weeks.
Community members have however complained
that there is a lack of police visibility and they take a long time to respond
to a crime.
Bennet said police do respond to incident
of crime but there are incidents where police arrived on the scene and
communities attack and in some cases police would park the vehicle in
communities and walk on foot and when they come back they would find tyres
slashed.
Meanwhile gang violence in Manenberg
affected schools last month with several schools temporally shutting down.

police have several crime prevention initiatives in place to try and stop gang
violence in the area.
Bennet said the police have a job to do on
the road, there various crimes initiatives that police have embarked on and
they are trying to create more police visibility on the road.
