President Jacob
Zuma has congratulated the matric class of 2013 for obtaining a 78.2%
national pass rate up from last year’s 73.9%.
In a statement
President Zuma added that the class of 2013 represented a special category of
learners in South Africa as the country celebrates 20 years of democracy and freedom in 2014.
Presidency
Spokesperson Mac Maharaj education will take this country to prosperity which
is why it is one of government’s five key priorities and the presidency has
noted this upward rate of the results since democracy.
Meanwhile the
Congress of South African Students in the Western Cape said it is
still against the publication of matric results on newspaper.
Cosas Provincial
Convenor Siphakamise Ngxowa said they have tried to engage with Basic Education
Minister Angie Motshekga on the dangers of publishing results on
newspapers.
Ngxowa said the
publication of these results is against the privacy of the learners and that
put more pressure of them because everyone will see their results.
Ngxowa added that
they intend to engage more with the Basic Education Minister and if it means
going to court Cosas is ready.
