The Springboks World cup campaign has been dealt a blow with loose-forward Pierre Spies ruled out, following the detection of blood clots in his lungs.
Team Doctor Yusuf Hassan said the player may not participate in any contact sport for a period between six and eight months.
Coach Jake White said he was devastated by the news of the players health, however they have found a replacement.
“We have called in Hooker Bismark du Plessis to replace Spies, he has started with camp today in Durban,”’ says Media communications manager, Vusi Kama.
In terms of the International Rugby Board rules du Plessis is not eligible to play for his province, The Sharks, before the end of the Rugby World Cup in France.
