Ubuhle Babantwana Care Centre in Mfuleni has been burgled on Friday evening the 3 August 2007.
DVD players, Computer and printers, office furniture, toys for the children, educational material, donated clothes, food, blankets, chairs and tables, pots and books were some of the items stolen.
The centre cares for disadvantaged children in the community and provides a safe place for them to reside. It also promotes education to children whose parents can not afford to send them to crèche.
“The centre aims to make a difference in the lives of the children and now this has been taken away from them,” says Project Manager Pumla Gigi
She added that they laid a charge on Saturday but because there were no witnesses, no arrests have been made yet.
“We are worried and don’t feel safe, although there is a security guard on duty 24 hours a day. Repairs are being made to the building and other crèches are assisting by looking after the children while this is being done,” says Gigi.
She appeals to the community to come forward and assist in anyway they can.
