The 2007 wage negotiations in SARS and Nehawu have broken down and all attempts to find a reasonable settlement have failed.
“Nehawu subsequently declared a wage dispute ad concluded the internal dispute processes,” says Alistair Charles, Nehawu National Organiser,SARS.
Charles adds that Nehawu has now served notice for legal industrial action which can commence on 13 August 2007.
“During these internal dispute processes, management confirmed that they have already implemented their final offer on wages. Given the employer’s intractable attitude to genuine and fair negotiations, a dispute was inevitable, “says Charles.
Charles explains just like all other workers, SARS employees are also struggling to make ends meet
“SARS workers continue to experience soaring food prices, fuel increases, out of control housing prices, interest rates hikes and the rising costs in education, health and electricity, “says Charles.
Charles says that their members unanimously rejected management’s final offer of 7.5%.
