Residents of Freedom Park, an informal settlement in Ottery say the city of Cape Town has left them in the cold.
This comes after mop-up operations have been well under way in flooded areas in the rest of the city since heavy rains fell more than two weeks ago.
Residents say they feel neglected since people elsewhere had been helped already.
Johann Minnie, manager of the city’s Disaster Risk Management Unit responded saying, “The residents of Freedom Park has got exactly the same access to relief and support as any other area that has been affected.”
“After they report the flooding or if they need assistance Disaster Management does assessments in the area and then determines what relief is required, “says Minnie.
He encouraged Cape Town residents affected by flooding to call Disaster Risk Management on 0880 103 054.
