Numsa go on strike to demand recognition

About 600 members of the National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa (Numsa) downed tools on Monday at Hi Tech Automotive in Port Elizabeth to demand the trade union’s attention.
“The strike just started today and there are various issues around the strike some of those issues relate to wage increase,” says Mziwakhe Hlangani, Numsa national spokesperson.
Hlangani says that the majority of the workers in the plant had joined Numsa, as the management has refused to recognize Numsa as a representative union and also refused to negotiate with the union.
