The fight over the Cosatu-convened conference with civil society, to which the African National Congress had not been invited, continues.
One of the organisations that participated in the conference, the Alternative Information and Development Centre, says the ANC displayed tremendous paranoia and ineffective leadership reminiscent of the Thabo Mbeki era.
AIDC says it is unfortunate that the civil society initiative to develop a principled struggle against corruption and neo-liberal policies received what it calls an “irrational response from the ANC leadership”.
The ANC has responded by saying it finds it “very unfortunate” that some leading figures of civil society have found it appropriate to call the ANC structures, particularly its national working committee, “uncertain”.
The ruling party is also concerned about accusations that some ANC leaders have “questionable moral integrity”.
The ANC has advised the named leaders to take legal action.
