The University of Cape Town has conveyed its heart-felt condolences to the family of one of its academics, Professor George Lindsey.
“This is a sad loss for the University. He has been a member of the UCT community for over 30 years,” said Professor Martin West, UCT’s Acting Vice-Chancellor and Principal.
According to Dean of the Faculty of Science, Professor Kathy Driver the UCT community is shocked by this tragic loss.
“He will be greatly missed by his colleagues, research collaborators and students”, says Driver.
Lindsey died tragically yesterday, his 23-year-old daughter, Claire, was wounded in the accident. Early indications are that they hit power lines when they approached the airstrip for an emergency landing. The Civil Aviation Authority is investigating. Lindsey was a Professor in the Molecular and Cell Biology Department in the Faculty of Science.
