Motorists and commuters are bracing themselves as the price of petrol is set to rise at midnight.
Not only is the price of petrol increasing, but a shortage of the commodity has been reported across the country and consumers have been asked not to rush to the pumps. According to the SA Petroleum Retailers Association, the shortage of petrol is due to logistics.
The price of petrol will rise by 23 cents per litre to R7.24 (per litre) of unleaded 95 octane. The price of 93 octane unleaded and lead replacement petrol will increase to R7.11.
The petrol price increases are mainly due to high world oil prices. Since the beginning of 2007, the price of petrol has increased by R1,35c per litre. This amount excludes the looming price increase at midnight.
