Hostage-taker killed by police

Police received a complaint of a shooting incident that occurred at a restaurant in Long Street, Cape Town over the weekend.

On arrival several shots had been fired at the police vehicle that was damaged on the right side. The two student constables and constable from Cape Town police station sustained no visible injuries.

Police spokesperson, Inspector Bernadine Steyn says, “It is alleged that the suspect entered the premises and that several shots were fired inside the restaurant, wounding a male employee in the leg. Some of the employees ran out of the building, including the injured male employee who was taken to a hospital for medical treatment, after which he was discharged.”

A police team entered the building, stun grenades were thrown and several shots were fired during which the 26-year-old suspect from Site B, Khayelitsha, David Kula, had been fatally wounded in the chest.

Steyn says they are investigating several attempted murder charges.
