The Western Cape Youth Commission will today in Khayelitsha launch the action planned for the month of June with the emphasis being placed on young people delivering a service.

The theme of the month long programme of activities to highlight youth development is: Deepening Youth Participation through Service.

Solomzi Lamani of the Western Cape Youth Commission says the theme was encouraged by Deputy President Phumzile-Mlambo Ngcuka.

“We have specifically targeted Khayelitsha because it is a presidential note.” says Lamani.

He says the Youth Commission has partnered with a youth development forum that is in charge with all youth forums of Khayelitsha.

The commission then joined the established forum and named it, The Khayelitsha Development Youth Council.

The programme kicks off with a National Youth Service programme where a clean up campaign will take place. More than 500 young people are expected to join the programme and participate in cleaning streets and neighbourhoods in Khayelitsha.

The Commissioner Vincent Domingo and various MEC’s will attend the launch and deliver a range of keynote speeches.
