Cape Town mayor Hellen Zille and local Government MEC Richard Dyantyi are once again set to cross swords over the housing crisis in Cape Town.
This follows after an opinion by Dyantyi that the City application for accreditation as housing agent would not be the most effective way of addressing the housing issue in Cape Town.
Meanwhile the City says it has submitted a businessman plan, made the necessary changes and provided additional information at Dyantyi’s request several months ago.
“We need accreditation so that we deliver houses more quickly and receive money straight from the national government instead of going through province first as it causes delays,” says spokesperson for the mayor, Robert MacDonald.
“That can be done through housing accreditation, but the province has to give authorisation”, says Macdonald.
But when Bush Radio tried to get of Richard Dyantyi his spokesperson Vusi Tshose said that “no comment was available regarding the issue at hand”.
