Two suspects were arrested in Kraainfontein, in the early hours of Monday morning, in connection with the murder of a five-year-old boy and the robbery of an undisclosed amount of money.

“The two suspects aged between 20 and 24 are to face charges of murder and robbery and will appear in court,” says police spokesperson Siphokazi Mawisa.

The arrest follows two days after the incident occurred when a 67-year-old man was robbed at gun point, of an unknown amount of money, in front of N1 garage near Kraaifontein.

A family from Oudtshoorn who was in the parking area at the time witnessed the robbery and tried to drive off. While they were driving off the suspects stopped them and fired several shots.

“A 5-year-old boy, Dillion Meiring, who was inside the vehicle sustained a gunshot wound to the face. He died at hospital due to the injuries he sustained,” says Mawisa.

The investigation into the murder and robbery continues. The suspects are to appear in Kuils River Magistrate Court on Wednesday July, 25.
