The residents of Phoenix in Manenberg are set to recieve new homes, after their homes were destroyed nearly eight years ago.
The building of these 67 houses are to start on Monday. The housing project is roughly estimated at nearly R5 million rand.
Members of this community live in back yards and wendy houses. They did not qualify for the city’s initial housing project that was intended for victims of the tornado that struck in 1999.
Depending on weather conditions, the houses are expected to be finished within the next four months.
The first stage of this project involves the building of 21 houses.
