Eskom has promised that the shut down of Koeberg nuclear power station will have no effect on power supply in the city.
This follows the shut down of Unit One of the Koeberg nuclear power station on Monday, August 13th, due to maintenance and refuelling.
“Provision has been made to ensure there will be enough power to supply the Western Cape, as well as the rest of the country,” says Eskom spokesperson Tony Stott.
He added that the unit would be out of action until the final week of October, but that Unit Two would be in full operation.
“The forecast for electricity supply during this period was traditionally lower,” says Stott.
Stott says that the new open-cycle gas turbines Ankerlig at Atlantis and Gourikwa at Mossel Bay were also operating and would help supply power.
“In addition, power will be brought in from Mpumalanga via overhead lines to bolster the province’s electricity supply,” says Stott.
