Western Cape Premier Helen Zille says she is aware of a rumoured spy network which has a reporting line to the African National Congress which reportedly is out to hurt her provincial government.
According to a leading daily newspaper, the alleged network has tentacles in each of the ten provincial departments in the only province not ruled by the ANC.
The goal is believed to be to discredit the Democratic Alliance. ANC spokesperson Garth Strachan reacted by saying Zille had read too many spy novels.
