Tony Twine, a senior economist at Ecometrix says that the falling inflation has brought about relief on the hard pressed South Africans especially the poorest.

He said that the key factor in the moderating price rise is the strength of the rand. The inflation rate in May for people was 2.8 percent, down from 2.9 in April and 5.4 in the fourth quarter of last year, said Twine.

Compared to the overall inflation rate of 4.6 percent that month, May figure was the lowest for this income bracket in four-and –half years.
