ER24 paramedics have confirmed that four men are trapped in a mine near Robertville on the West Rand.

It is believed that the mine shaft which they were working in collapsed.

ER24 Spokesperson Christo Venter said they believe that the four mineworkers have been trapped for about three or four days.

Venter said it is believed that the mine was closed when the men were underground and rescue workers are busy trying to gain entry into the mine.

ER24’s Christo Venter said the rescue workers are able to communicate with the four men that are trapped but there is no direct contact as yet, but they do seem to be in good health.

“There seems to be no one injured as yet but that will only be confirmed once they are rescued” Venter added.
