The Institute for Security Studies has welcomed the new law in theWestern Cape that forbids
blue-light brigades on the province’s roads.
The Institute for Security Studies has welcomed the new law in the
Western Cape MEC of Transport and Public
Works Robin Carlisle said there has been a lot of abuse of blue light brigades
by office bearers in the past and a disregard for the law and a threat of
safety of other road users.
ISS Spokesperson Johan Burger said there is
a need for VIP to protect the particular VIP person especially if there is a
reason to believe that there is a threatening reason on the road.
“I think what this law does is to force VIP
protectors when there is no threat to keep to the rules of the road and I think
to that extent it would be a good thing” Burger added.
