The Western Cape Department of Education said four classrooms were destroyed due to a fire that broke out at Kenmere Primary School in Kensington.

WCED Spokesperson Paddy Attwell said it took the fire brigade two hours to put out the fire.

Attwell said the principal and the teachers did a courage’s thing and slept at the school overnight for security reasons.  Our school division is organising additional security for the school.

“The teachers are in the meanwhile teaching in the school hall and we are looking at other options for example installing mobile classrooms.  We don’t have an estimate of the damage at this stage however the police are investigating” Attwell added.
