The Democratic Alliance has called on Basic Education Minister, Angie Motshekga, to implement an urgent independent inquiry into the reasons for the non-delivery of textbooks, as well as a full list of recommendations as to what measures should be put in place to correct this as soon as possible.

The inquiry’s investigation must provide why were textbooks not delivered on time.

DA MP on Education Annette Lovemore said during 2013 on numerous occasions Minister Angie Motshekga made a promise to the nation that in 2014 every single learner in South Africa would have her/his own textbooks for every single subject delivered on time.

Lovemore added that unfortunately that promise has proven to be false, there are thousands of learners in Limpopo, the Northern Cape and North West who are still without the textbooks.
