This weekend Western Cape MEC of Transport and Public Works Robin Carlisle joined the City of Cape Town’s Ghost Squad in a sting operation targeting drag racing.

During the operation which took place in Mitchell’s Plain, Athlone and Ottery eight people were arrested for drag racing.

MEC Carlisle said vehicles need to be impounded if caught drag racing illegally.

Ministerial Spokesperson Sipheshile Dube said MEC Carlisle is very pleased that this operation will continue as drag racing has been a threat to safety for many years now..

Dube added that as a department they will continue to try and clamp down on this very dangerous practice.
