JCPS Cluster committed to fighting crime

Minister of Justice Jeff Radebe during a media briefing on Wednesday said efforts to combat crime have yielded results and that over the past nine years incidents of crime have declined against the increase in population. 

Minister Radebe highlighted some priorities of the Justice, Crime Prevention and Security Cluster which include dealing with corruption managing borders and improving population registration. 

Radebe said the cluster is finalising policy development that seeks to address illegal immigration, deportation, illegal trading of goods and improve the situation in our borders.

He also said the boarder management agency which is the BMA which is currently being established under the leadership of Department of Home Affairs will be in place by 2014 and will assists in creating safer borders and ports of entry.

On the other hand speaking on Smart ID cards Minister Radebe said the roll out of the cards is part of efforts to protect the integrity of our population register.

Radebe said 28 offices across South Africa have been earmarked to processes applications for the smart ID cards. It is hoped that by April this year the department will have at least 70 offices to process application for smart id cards.
