R71 million programme for unemployed graduates launched

Minister of Trade and Industry Rob Davies on Tuesday launched the 71 million-Rand internship Programme for unemployed graduates. 

Davies said skills development and creating opportunities for youth and graduates will go a long way in reducing the levels of poverty and unemployment in South Africa.

The programme will be implemented in three waves of intakes in the next two years. 

Departmental Spokesperson Sidwell Medupe said this programme “Itukise” is one initative that will address the question of youth unemplyment, which has been a focus of government for a long time. 

Medupe said the programme will address the challenges of providing internship in the manufacturing industry which is a main focus of the Department of Trade and Industry.
