Maths teachers across the Western Cape are leading a charge to change the new curriculum, stating it will not deliver enough skilled students.
The group, The Concerned Maths Educators (CME), started a petition urging the national Department of Education to adopt a contingency plan to help thousands of pupils.
The CME have warned that thousand of pupils will fail maths at the end of the year, if the department sticks with the new curriculum.
South Africa lags behind many countries in producing good maths and science students.
