Former police chief Jackie Selebi’s corruption trial is coming to an end today.
Selebi was charged with corruption for taking R1.2 million in cash and gifts from his druglord friend Glen Aglioti in what has been deemed as the “corrupt relationship” and defeating the ends of justice. Judge Meyer Joffe took the whole day going over the evidence presented to him in the 51-day trial in Gauteng High Court yesterday.
Judge Joffe said the State had to prove its case against the accused beyond reasonable doubt and that both Agilioti’s and Selebi’s versions have been carefully analysed. The judge is expected to give his ruling today.
