The National Education Health and Allied Workers Union said it is concerned by comments made by the South African Reserve Bank regarding labour strikes and the proposed credit amnesty for those who have met their debt obligations.

Nehawu Spokesperson Sizwe Pamla said the comments are not surprising as like their western counterparts, they take their mandate from the International Monetary Fund.

"We find this total troubling because the reserve bank is not a public owned entity but privately owned. Government can not take a mandate from the private sector because the mandate that was given to our government comes from the people of South Africa who elected it in 2009" Pamla added.
