Scores of people left homeless in separate shack fires

More than 200 people were left homeless when two separate fires occurred in Gugulethu and Strand whereby people lost all their belongings yesterday.

Disaster Risk Management Spokesperson Wilfred Solomons-Johannes said the first incident occurred in at the Europe Informal Settlements whereby 31 people were left homeless and 173 people were displaced in Strand.

Solomons-Johannes said on both incidents there were no injuries reported.

He further urged residents to be cautious around open fires and electrical cables.
