16-year-old shot dead in Athlone

A 16-year-old boy was on Tuesday murdered in what police suspect was a gang-related incident. 

The shooting happened in Athlone and a 31-year-old man was also injured. 

Police Spokesperson Thembinkosi Kinana said an investigation is underway to arrest whoever was responsible for the shooting. 

Kinana said according to information we received the teenager was coming from school when he was caught in a crossfire between the people who were fighting.

“The police have opened a murder and an attempted murder case for investigation and no arrests have been made as yet” Kinana added.
