Body of a fisherman recovered in Bantry Bay

The body of a fisherman who went missing last week has been found in Bantry Bay. 

The fisherman who is 29-years-old went missing after he went spear fishing in the area.

National Sea Rescue Institute Spokesperson Craig Lambinon said the search for the man last week was unsuccessful.

“He had gone spear fishing at Bantry Bay when eye witnesses noticed that he had disappeared under water a report was sent out to NSRI,” Lambinon added.

Lambinon said an extensive search on Saturday afternoon revealed no sign of him but during a dire search on Sunday the police located and recovered his body.

He concluded by saying that the family are being assisted by the police and an inquest docket has been opened by police.
