Lusanda Bill
11 March 2014

The City of Cape Town has submitted comment on draft legislation that seeks to spell out procedures from national government around the traffic enforcement and management of traffic services.

Mayoral Committee Member for Safety and Security JP Smith said these draft legislation are very problematic.  The city will now be seeking legal advice about opposing the code.

Smith said it is extremely important for the functioning of local government competency like traffic law enforcement as well as metro police take a principle stance against this.

“We have submitted comments that points out the various problems with the constitutional impairment as well as conflict with other national legislations that would be imposed by the provisions in the draft regulations” Smith added.
