Western Cape MEC of Transport and Public Robin Carlisle has condemned the attack of a motorist by a group of cyclists which was caught on camera.

The cyclists are shown in the video punching and attacking the motorist with a bicycle wheel in Sea Point over the weekend.

MEC Carlisle said the video shows a serious lack of consideration for other occupying the shared space that is our roads.

Ministerial Spokesperson Sipheshile Dube said what is apparent from the recording is that the cyclists were riding in contravention of the law.  The law specifically states outside of a cycling event, cyclists must ride in single file on the open roads.

“We will be keeping a close eye on this investigation and hope we are confident that the perpetrators will be brought to justice” Dube added.
