Media called to respect the law during Oscar Pistorius trial

The Sonke Gender Justice has urged the media to report responsibly when reporting on the Oscar Pistorius trial. 

Sonke Gender Justice Spokesperson Patrick Godana said it is important that the law and general ethical guidelines be maintained and respected. 

Pistorius is standing trial for the murder of his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp on Valentines Day last year. 

Godana said it is important for the media not to infringe on the rights of witnesses and also the officials of the state who dealing on this case. 

"We need this trial to happen fairly so that justice can be severed for both parties” Godana added.
