AfriForum condemns calls for destruction and vandalizing of statues

AfriForum condemns calls by the ANC Youth League and EFF for the removal and even worse, the destruction of statues that supposedly has to do with colonialism and white supremacy, such as the Kruger statue on Church in Pretoria.

AfriForum’s Deputy Chief Executive, Alana Bailey said all heritage and legacy symbols should be preserved and that we respect each others different opinions about the contribution of public figures other than simply removing statues.

Bailey said that we should see a programme where more statues are added so that we have a comprehensive landscape of our historical past, rather than moving any symbols which give offence to some sectors of the community.
